There are several types of otoplasty. Aesthetic otoplasty is performed when it is necessary to “press” the ears to the head or reduce their size. It is also indicated for bifurcation of the earlobe or consequences of wearing heavy or massive earrings, “tunnels”. Reconstructive ear correction helps to recreate (partially or completely) the auricle. This type of surgery is complex and should be performed by an experienced surgeon. As a rule, it requires several operations over the course of a year, since first it is necessary to create a cartilaginous base for the auricle, and then form a subcutaneous pocket, which will take about 4-6 months to take root. Laser otoplasty is also performed in Turkish clinics. This is a correction of the shape or size of the ear using a special medical laser of the latest generation. The operation is minimally invasive, without bleeding, since the laser beam coagulates the vessels. In the postoperative period, there is practically no swelling and hematomas. Signs of protruding ears:
- The angle of the auricle to the head is more than 30 degrees
- The auricle has a smoothed contour
- The cartilaginous protrusion (antihelix) also looks smoothed and almost even.
An ear is considered normal when the shell line is parallel to the cheek, and the distance between the shell edge and the skull is about 2 centimeters. As a rule, protruding ears are a hereditary phenomenon that can be successfully eliminated by ear plastic surgery in Turkey.
